Precaution Guidelines
Standard Precautions
Used for all patient's care regardless of their known or suspected infection status. Type of infection control practices to be considered should be based on the level of anticipated exposure to the patient.

Transmission Based Precautions
Transmission-Based Precautions are to be used in addition to Standard Precautions for patients who may be infected or colonized with certain infectious agents for which additional precautions are needed to prevent infection transmission.More than one Transmission Based Precautions can be adopted for single patients.
To be followed in addition to Standard Precautions when infection can spread by contact for example (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA), Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus (VRE), Open wounds).

To be followed in addition to Standard Precautions when infection can spread by Droplets for example (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Pneumonia).

To be followed in addition to Standard Precautions when infection can spread by air for example (Tuberculosis).
